Help Young Minds

Allowing every child to reach for the stars

Our Executives

Tim Garcia

President

Hello! My name is Tim and I am in my second year of my MSc in Immunology. In my free time I love to workout at the gym, play various sports, as well as play video games from time to time. I joined HYM first as a tutor as I believe I see the value and opportunity education creates, and I wanted to ensure other children have access to education in order for them to find that opportunity for themselves. As President, I look forward to working with our amazing team and all our volunteers, and I hope to continue to build off the momentum we had this past year by increasing the reach of our group and creating a positive community in an effort towards fulfilling our mission!

Keren George

Vice President

Hi I'm Keren and I'm in my final year of my BA in Criminology. In my free time I love to get food with my friends, volunteer and paint. I joined HYM about two years ago as a tutor and immediately fell in love with the cause of this organization! I’m so honored to be a part of such an amazing team that supports a great cause. I fully believe that all kids should have access to affordable educational resources. As the Vice President, I cannot wait to help the team continue to grow and show more people the joys of being involved in this organization!!

Virtue Ekanem

Volunteer Director

Hello! My name is Virtue, and I am in my fourth year doing a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Neuroscience at the University of Alberta. In my free time, I enjoy diving into a good book, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. I joined Help Young Minds because I believe educational resources should be readily available to all students regardless of their socioeconomic background, and I am honoured to be a part of an amazing team that actively works towards this goal. As volunteer director, I look forward to working alongside and supporting an incredible group of volunteers who are equally passionate about helping students thrive.

Favour Alege

Volunteer Coordinator

Hi! My name is Favour and I’m currently in my second year majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology. In my free time I enjoy photography, especially capturing moments during walks where I can explore nature and new places. I’m also a huge fan of K dramas and BTS, and I love singing whenever I get the chance, especially in choirs. I first decided to volunteer with Help Young Minds because I’ve always valued the support I received from mentors and tutors throughout my academic journey and I wanted to offer that same encouragement to younger students. HYM’s mission to empower and uplift children deeply resonated with me, and my first year tutoring with the organization was a rewarding experience. I’m excited to return this year as the volunteer coordinator and am honored to be joining the executive team. I hope to support both volunteers and parents in a dependable and organized way and to help create a positive and encouraging environment for everyone involved.

Ariane Valera

Content Director

Hi!! I’m Ariane and I’m in my fourth year of Astrophysics. I love music, books, math, winter sports, and hanging out with my adorable dog! I originally joined HYM as a content creator because I was looking for a creative outlet that allowed me to explore some of my favorite topics and to (hopefully) entice others to explore them as well. After learning more about the organization’s goal of making learning more accessible to everyone, I’d decided I wanted to play a larger role in that! As content director, I hope to continue to fill our team with people with a great desire to spread their love of all things learning!

Madison Guinto

Executive at Large

Hello! My name is Madison Guinto and I am entering my second year of Honors Neuroscience. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym, reading, baking, and doing any kind of arts and crafts! This will be my second year being involved with Help Young Minds and I cannot wait to continue my journey with such an amazing and inspiring organization. Tutoring has always been something that has brought me so much joy and fulfillment as I love seeing kids engage and understand their schoolwork. Help Young Minds has given me an opportunity to support students in their educational journey and provide them with the tools they require to succeed. I am extremely honoured to be part of this amazing team and continue to provide support without the financial burden. I believe that students are not actually aware of all the resources out there that can help them reach their full potential. Therefore, I am so excited to organize events and utilize social media to spread the word about our program and all that we have to offer as this year’s Executive at Large!

Sophia Legault

Finance Director

I am a third-year Bachelor of Commerce student majoring in Human Resources. Some of my hobbies include baking, cross-country skiing, and thrifting! I decided to become involved with HYM because I am passionate about helping students be their best selves academically! My goal is to help students gain confidence and I strive to support them on their academic journey anyway I can :)

Kishan Prasad

Webmaster

Hi! My name is Kishan, and I’m currently in my fourth year of Computer Science with an Economics minor. I serve as the webmaster for Help Young Minds. Outside of school, I enjoy playing soccer, volleyball, and gaming with friends. I applied for this position because I believe students and parents deserve a simple and stress-free experience when seeking tutoring help. There are already so many challenges they face, navigating a website shouldn’t be one of them. My goal is to maintain and improve the site to ensure it remains accessible, user-friendly, and a safe space for all.
